To start I usually recommend searching for lists of free general directories. Submit to a few thousand free directories to build a backlink foundation. Once you are done submitting to the directories search google for a list of article directories. You can even search for “do follow” article directories meaning you get the full page rank of the backlinks coming from the article directory. After you submit to a few of these article directories you can move onto social bookmarking and press releases. You can also use Google to find plenty of do follow forums within your niche and do follow blogs.
